A British Facebook sewing group shared their memories recently, of needles left in the wallpaper next to the fireplace where the mending was done. Was this just a UK thing?

Diane:

‘We always had needle and thread in the wallpaper by the side of the fireplace!’

Marie:

‘So did we! On the chimney breast side wall.’

Eileen:

‘I am 68 yrs old. I remember so clearly the sewing needles jabbed in the wallpaper of the chimney breast!’

Mary:

‘My nan always had a needle and thread in the side edge of the living room curtains.’

Jacqui:

‘I can remember it too: needle and thread in the wallpaper! God, it brings back memories!’

Carol:

‘I'm only 55 and thought I was the only one who kept a needle and thread in the wallpaper!!! I don't remember seeing it anywhere when I was little; it must be an inherent gene that we have no control of!’

Christine:

‘I always put my sewing needle in the wallpaper.’

Editor: I love nostalgic quirks!...but may I POINT out that my handmade all-natural sheep’s wool PinPig© keeps needles sharper than wallpaper made from wood fibres!
